Four People Shot at Howe Community Park — Large Unauthorized Party Turns Violent
On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unapproved gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Park in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area descended into chaos when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots rang out as Sacramento County law enforcement were attempting to clearing the crowd.
How Events Unfolded
At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the SCSO was notified reporting persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the park. A second caller mentioned a possible physical altercation and people running from the area.
Air support was deployed and searched the park but was unable to locate an active fight.
Even so, a large crowd had gathered at the park for what deputies referred to as an unauthorized event. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies positioned themselves around the park, turned on their emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes instructing attendees to vacate the area over loudspeakers.
While law enforcement cleared the gathering, between 20 and 25 shots filled the night air — triggering a panicked crowd in here panic.
Shooting Victims
Four people — three men and one woman, all in their 20s — were taken to nearby hospitals. Two were treated for immediate injuries, one with moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries. All four victims were stable. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District assisted with on-scene medical triage at the park.
The Crime Scene
Gunfire originated from the Cottage Way corridor side of the park near the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. The Home Depot was briefly placed on lockdown. Suspect Information
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was revealed that a suspect vehicle — a Kia — was pulled more info over in the Solano County area with four individuals detained. SCSO deputies were dispatched to retrieve the detainees and return them to Sacramento. Footage confirmed two separate shooters.
